Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown is finding ways to be creative while sheltering in place. After perfecting the art of shimmering peel-off masks, MBB’s latest project (and its accompanying outfit) is giving us some strong cottagecore vibes.
On Sunday, May 17, Millie posted a cute shot of herself standing before a fenced-in garden, which was painted bright yellow, to her Instagram account. “Built a garden,” Millie captioned the pic, and a quick peek inside the netted fencing reveals that yes, there’s some greenery growing there!
Millie herself donned a pair of high-waisted army green cargo shorts and a cropped, terracotta orange peasant top with a ruffled neckline and sleeves, plus some classic Birkenstock sandals that wrapped around her ankles. For sun protection, she added a large-brimmed hat and finished off her gardening ensemble with a delicate gold necklace and gold earrings.
While the shorts and sandals might not be the best thing for digging in the dirt, Millie looks every bit the farm girl, and we’d love to know what she planted. (We don’t think you can grow Eggos in a garden.)
Cottagecore and farmcore have been having a major moment in the fashion spotlight. They are both a fashion look and a lifestyle movement that harkens back to simpler days on a farm, with gingham and floral prints, puffed sleeves, and romantic country-style looks being a few of the major trends currently popping up on social. However, cottagecore is nothing new; it was partially popularized by Marie Antoinette in the 18th century, and as trends do, it resurfaces in waves, hence MBB fully jumping on the bandwagon.
Cottagecore isn’t the only trend Millie has embraced while staying at home. In March, the actor got cozy in some social distancing outfits, including a classic white tank, grey sweats, and glasses look, and a teddy bear-emblazoned nightshirt from Justin Bieber’s Drew House line. We’ve been loving her time-off looks, and we can’t wait to see the first harvest from her adorable new garden.
